I don’t know where I want to go, nor do I know the destination of where my life is heading in this vast expanse most people call life. But its more than that, its more than any of us, more than life itself. Big questions you ask, and indeed it is a big question, and I for one don’t have the answer…

Darren Aronofsky on Acquiring Funding

stephendiaz:

“It’s always been hard for me to make my films. I’ve always had to make them with incredible financial limitations because it’s the only way to get them made. After Pi everyone was like, “What do you want to do?” and I showed them the book to Requiem and no one returned my calls. After Requiem it took six years to make The Fountain. Then when we tried to put this movie (The Wrestler) together , because I cast Mickey Rourke, it took two years to finance it. No one believed that Mickey could be sympathetic. It’s always a tough road for some reason. I end up choosing things that are not obvious.”

-Darren Aronofsky

Financial limitations can spur us into a creative state that we did not expect. Embrace the limitations and work around them. Sometimes this even turns out better than if you had the money you thought you needed! I’m all about low-budget filmmaking, before I spend money on a film I always try to ask myself…how can we do this for free or cheap without sacrificing quality? Sometimes all it takes is some brainstorming, pulling strings and calling/emailing random people.

Big Questions you ask….

I don’t know where I want to go, nor do I know the destination of where my life is heading in this vast expanse most people call life. But its more than that, its more than any of us, more than life itself. Big questions you ask, and indeed it is a big question, and I for one don’t have the answer and most likely never will, but that won’t stop me looking for them. It will take me across the world seeking them, and unfortunately will entail me loosing people dear to me along the way on this journey. I will upset people, make people cry, laugh, hate, smile, wince and embrace. Travelling in life, we all try to apease others without realising that in order to be happy, you need to be ok with yourself before you help others. That’s my take on it.

I’ve seen amazing things and witnessed magnificent events in my life across the world, its these things that I hold on to and give me fuel and provide me with the energy to move forward, don’t be afraid to dream a bit bigger….
